Prairie Fire Wichita Marathon
Lace up those running shoes and break out the muscle cream because the Wichita Sports Commission and Via Christi Health are proud to announce a sizzling new marathon dedicated to those who yearn to conquer the burn.
Not only is there great excitement about the new course design, but also for the the FIT FOR LIFExpo and carb loading Pasta Dinner on Saturday, October 9th.
Four Great Races
If running 26.2 miles is a little intimidating don't worry, we have three other events to choose from: a half marathon, Mayor's 5K and the Fun Run & Walk!
Volunteers Needed
If you're hampered by an injury but still want to be involved, or want to help while waiting for a family member that's running we'll need plenty of volunteers to help along the course. From manning traffic at over 250 intersections to distributing water along the course we can use your help! Just contact the Sports Commission office and we'll get you on the list!

The start of my vacation...

I hope everyone is having a fun and fit summer so far! I am off to a much needed vacation to Table Rock Lake (one of my favorite ski lakes). I think it is true when they say you finally let go and relax things will just happen. For example, we are still in the process of driving to the lake which is 6 hours away. In this time I have received a call from one of our news channels wanting me to come on the air this Monday (darn it, I won't be in town) & our newspaper (The Wichita Eagle) called an hour later wanting me to help them with an article they are writing.

WOW! And all I have done is sit in the car! I am going on vacation more often!

I tell my clients all the time about how bad stress is for their body but then I find myself getting stressed as well. It is evident that we are all going to get stressed out but it is how we handle that stress (that may or maynot effect the body). I am finding that relaxing everynow and then is what is going to work with me. That is very important- find what works for you and do it! Find that balance for yourself (and your family)! Even if you can't get away for a vacation- plan a bubble bath for youself. Have a plan, ask your hubby if he can take the kids, dogs, etc on a walk for 30 min. so you can relax. And do what you planned! Let your mind, body, and soul relax!

YWCA donations and running a Marathon!

Don’t forget the YWCA is collecting 1 Ply toilet paper (Cottonelle and Scott), powder drink mix, and small bottles of water for the kids. You can bring them anytime to any class! If Megan S. is not in class I will take them and give them to her! The winner for this month will get a gift certificate to Bed Bath and Beyond!!!!!

The Wichita Prairie Fire races are only 18 weeks away! This will include the Fit For Life Expo (that StrollerFit will be at) on Saturday, Oct.9th and then the races on 10-10-10! How cool would it be to run a race on 10-10-10?!!! Especially if it is a race you have never done before! I am so excited that we are having a race that has an expo! Wichita is moving on up!!!!

If you would like to train there are only 18 more weeks till the races! So if you have any urge to run a ½ marathon or marathon let momsinmotion help you train for it and meet your goal!!! You can do it! The summer session doesn’t start till Aug.7th but if there are some of you that would like to start training now please let me know…we can start NOW! This is the perfect time! Contact me ASAP so we can get you started! If you would like to run/walk a race make sure you sign up by Aug.31st. After that the price goes up!

This past Saturday was a Dad's Day at StrollerFit.  A day when dad's get to come and experience what the moms do in StrollerFit classes, and Tonya does not take it easy on them!

What to bring to StrollerFit tomorrow...

Hi moms,

Don't forget our theme for the month is, "the Circus" and our number is 5. So, tomorrow to StrollerFit have your little one bring 5 things that remind them of the circus! This is a great time to talk, read, and learn all about the circus! Make it a fun activity for them! Hide things around the house and have them go on a scavenger hunt!

Stacy will be teaching class tomorrow and hopefully it doesn't so you guys can be outside at Exploration Place 9am! Don't forget there is also night StrollerFit tomorrow at 6:15pm at Exploration Place!

Have fun with the Circus theme and I will see everyone on Wednesday morning!

Dad's Workout Day is Today!!!

Dad's Workout Day at StrollerFit is a great way for the WHOLE FAMILY TO WORKOUT TOGETHER! Plus, dad's if you workout with us you will be entered into a drawing for a gift certificate from Lowes!!!! Happy Early Father's Day!Not only are YOU getting a workout in for the day but you and your significant other are being great role models for your kids (of any age)! We have a lot of fun with the little ones- we sing to them, play games, do preschool activities (for the older ones), and then they get play time with each other at the end of class while we do crunches and stretching! We will meet on the tennis courts at Harrison Park! Make sure to bring sunscreen, plenty of water, snacks for the little ones, your fit n fun mat, or yoga mat, and make sure you eat a light healthy breakfast!You will get a great workout in with running/walking, hills, lunges, squats, upper body, abs, & stretches!If you have any questions please let me know!

Building MommyMuscle While Pregnant

I started coming to StrollerFit classes when I was 25 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child.  I went to class 3-4 times a week right up to the day I had my daughter.  In fact, that very day I ran 5 sets of stairs and then that night my daughter appeared!

I know first hand how hard it is to not gain weight while you are pregnant.   With my first pregnancy, I felt huge, I was working, I was tired and achy, and I ate more and moved less.  This of course left me a good 25 pounds over weight after my son was born and then I never quite got all that weight off before I got pregnant again.  I am so glad I found Tonya and her classes the 2nd time around.   2 weeks after my 2nd child was born, I weighed less and was so much stronger than I was before I got pregnant with her.  It made my recovering time after giving birth so much easier and shorter than the first time around.  Now, I'm not advocating dieting and trying to lose weight while you are pregnant.   It just was the natural outcome of actually getting off the couch and moving 3-4 times a week and eating better.  Going to StrollerFit while I was pregnant actually made me feel better physically than I did during my first pregnancy, where I was much more sedentary.  I had so much more energy and my body hurt less, which was a really good thing because I had a 2 year old to chase after!

Here are a couple more moms who are so inspiring to me.

Catherine came to Tonya's MommyMuscle Sculpt and Restore the Core classes.  She ended up moving away while she was pregnant and Tonya continued to train her via webcam!  Here is a picture her husband took of her and their 18 month old son.   Catherine is 39 weeks pregnant and doing a full side plank!!!


Sabrina is almost 35 weeks pregnant and still coming to StrollerFit classes at least 4 times a week with her 22 month old son and she has also been doing Restore the Core classes once a week!

StrollerFit is inside today (Towne West) due to the rain

Oh I hope it doesn't rain all week!!! Today we are inside Towne West in front of JC Penny's! Class will start at 9am!

What do you have to lose besides inches and pounds!!!You will have an assessment to start on your measurements, weight, body fat, visceral fat (fat around your organs), BMI, and muscle %. We will also test on different exercises! Then at the end of the 8 weeks we will see how you progressed!Each week you will get weekly homework that you are to do on your own 3x/week!

StrollerFit @ Sedgwick County Zoo

StrollerFit has moved to the Zoo on Wednesdays!  We'll be back at Sedgwick County Park on Wednesdays starting in August, but during June and July, come to the zoo and workout with your kids and then walk around and enjoy the animals afterwards! 

Meet in the Cargill Learning Center (to the right of the main entrance) at 9am, check in inside, and we'll warm up in the courtyard!  You do need a zoo membership, or pay $4 for each person over 3 years old to get in.  However, there are many moms who have memberships with guest passes on them and it's first come, first served to get in free on someone else's guest pass!

Today was our first workout at the zoo and it was a hot, muggy one!  But that didn't seem to stop anyone from coming out.  There were 23 moms and 31 kids who showed up today!  Awesome!
