Meals on Wheels for New Moms!
Sunday, July 18, 2010This is a great program that we are starting to reach out to other moms! Here is Rachel’s letter! Let’s help each other out!
Calling all Mommy-Muscle Moms!!!!
Remember back to what it was like when you had a newborn in the house. It is hard to do anything, but take care of your new little addition to the family. Hard to get laundry done, hard to keep up around the house, hard to get older kids dressed and ready, hard to get meals on the table.
Not everyone has family in town who are able to help. I am one of those people and I was so grateful for the people around me who reached out and brought my family dinner after Willow was born. We have an awesome opportunity to reach out and help new moms in our Mommy-Muscle Family by offering to bring someone a meal. This doesn't need to be something that makes you spend hours in the kitchen preparing. I find it's easiest for me to just double whatever I'm making my family for dinner and put half of it in a disposable pan to give away.
If you don't want to cook, stop by the store and get a rotisserie chicken and a bag of salad. Get a frozen lasagna. Stop by Papa Murphy's and pick up a pizza. Bringing anything will be a huge blessing to these families who are adjusting to new little babies being a part of their family.
Ashley Hermon has 15 month old twins and an almost 2 week old baby girl.
Sabrina Esterline has a 23 month old boy and a 1 day old baby boy. Both of these families are going to need meals starting this week!
I would like to be able to provide these awesome ladies with meals for at least a week, 2 weeks would be awesome!
Please considering helping these new moms and their families out by making them ONE meal and taking it to their house. If for some reason you can't deliver it, let me know and I'll arrange to get it to them.Email me at yarnhead2@yahoo.com, or call me at 360-589-0152 to get set up on the meal schedule. Thanks so much for showing how much you care about these families!

In the paper today...NO more excuses!
Tuesday, July 6, 2010I hope everyone is having a great start to their week! Check out the Wichita Eagle today…I am in the paper giving exercises you can do at the play ground! Go to www.kansas.com/living and it is in the Healthy living section!
There are NO excuses when it comes to working out and eating healthy! Let’s take care of our health so we are here for our kids! If you start doing some of these exercises at the play ground I bet your kids will join in (if they are old enough). They will look at exercising as fun not something they HAVE to do! I love it when my 2 year old takes me through a StrollerFit class. I am so happy that I get to be a positive role model for her.
So get out there today and exercise!
Happy reading…

An easy slow cooker recipe!!!
Slow-Cooker Chicken Cassoulet
-Cassoulet is a traditional French dish that is more like a stew. The basic ingredients include beans and meat, and it requires a long, slow cooking time.
Ingredients:
1 15 oz. navy beans, pinto beans or black-eyed peas, rinsed and well drained
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts or 1 small skinless boneless turkey breast cut into 4 large pieces.
Sea salt and fresh ground black pepper
2 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
12/3 cups low-sodium chicken stock (gluten free if necessary)
1 medium onion, peeled and chopped
4 celery stalks, trimmed and chopped
4 garlic cloves passed through a garlic press
1/4 cup sundried tomatoes (not packed in oil)
3 large carrots, peeled and cut in chunks
1/4 cup basil, chopped fine
1 tsp thyme
2 Tbsp minced parsley
Preparation:
1. spread half of the beans in the bottom of your slow-cooker pot.
2. Season poultry with pepper and sea salt. Heat olive oil over medium heat in a skillet. Brown the poultry on both sides in the skillet for about 5 minutes each side. Place the browned chicken on top of the beans in the slow cooker. Top with remaining beans and the chicken stock. Use water if you don't have chicken stock.
3. Saute the onions, celery, garlic, sundried tomatoes, carrots and herbs using the same skillet. spread this mixture over the ingredients in the crock pot. cover and put on slow heat for several hours.
Tip: Serve with Ezekiel bread
